What My Body's Been Trying to Tell Me (That I Finally Started Listening To)

Woman in a robe holding a mug at sunrise in a grassy field. Text reads: "The body whispers before it screams." Peaceful mood.

Let me tell you something I learned the hard way:

Your body is always talking.

Mine’s been yelling at me for years. And I — like many women — kept pushing her to the bottom of the to-do list.

I ignored the exhaustion.

I laughed off the brain fog.

I slapped a smile on over the bloat, anxiety, mood swings, sleep struggles, and the simmering sense that something was off.

I thought I just needed more discipline. More caffeine. More cardio. Less food.

🙃 Spoiler alert: I didn’t need more “hustle.” I needed to listen.

🧠 The Mind/Body Connection Isn’t Woo — It’s Wisdom

You know that saying “the body keeps the score”?

It’s true.

Our bodies hold trauma. They store stress. They internalize grief, burnout, and self-neglect. They respond — even when our brains are trying to power through.

When I started actually paying attention to my body’s messages (not the noise from culture, not my inner critic, but the actual cues from my body) — here’s what she told me:

“I’m tired of fighting to survive. Let me rest.”

“I’m not bloated because I ate carbs. I’m inflamed because I’m stressed.”

“I’m not lazy — I’m overloaded.”

“Please stop skipping meals — I need fuel, not punishment.”

🔥 Real Talk: My Symptoms Were My Signals

I used to think my body was the problem.

Now I see — she was waving red flags like:

Random joint pain

Skin flares

Crazy mood swings

Sleep that never felt “enough”

Always feeling wired… then crashing

And no, it wasn’t just “getting older.”

It was my body begging me to slow the hell down and listen.

💬 The Shift: Listening Without Judging

Here’s the practice I’ve been building - its not perfect but its progress:

When my body speaks — I don’t fight her.

I don’t shame her.

I ask her what she needs. And then I honor it.

Sometimes that means:

  • Choosing stillness over hustle

  • Feeding her instead of fasting

  • Canceling plans to sit in silence

  • Crying in the bath and calling it therapy

  • Saying no without apologizing

✨ This Season Is About Reconnection

If you’re in perimenopause or midlife, let me say this loud and clear:

You don’t need to fix your body.

You need to come back home to her.

The mind/body connection isn’t just about green juice and yoga.

It’s about learning to trust the cues your body is giving you — and having the courage to respond.

🔥 Real Talk — From Me to You

As I sit here at 9:30 PM — the night before this blog goes live — I’m doing what I’ve spent years avoiding:

I’m listening.

To her.

To my body.

To that quiet voice within that I used to silence.

And tonight?

She’s on fire — in the best way.

Emotionally lit up. Energized. Awake. Alive.

We all have moments where a podcast, a song, a quote, a conversation just hits different — and today, something cracked me open.

Because as I’ve been working on reconnecting my mind, body, and spirit…

I’ve found pieces of myself I didn’t even know I’d lost.

That dreamer?

The one who used to chase fireflies and believe she could lasso the damn moon?

She never left.

She just hid.

She hid from the pain.

From the gaslighting.

From the insults and emotional wreckage of being told she was too much.

Too loud. Too passionate. Too “dramatic.”

Too… her.

A woman kneels, smiling and offering her hand to a concerned girl in glasses amidst fiery flames. The scene is warm and intense. symbolic of the inner child that the writer has been hiding for so many years.

You can only be told you're "too much" so many times before you shrink yourself.

Before your nervous system taps out.

Before your soul decides it’s safer to just stay quiet.

And girl… I stayed quiet for too damn long.

But this season? This healing chapter?

This is where I walk back into the fire, grab that scared little girl by the hand, and say:

“You get to dream again.”

You get to feel joy.

To be wild.

To create.

To take up space.

To thrive.

💬 Over to You:

What’s your body been trying to tell you lately?

Where have you been pushing through… when you really needed to pause?

What version of yourself is hiding — and ready to be invited back into the light?

If you feel like sharing — I’m listening.

You’re not alone in this.

Not now. Not ever.

Cheers, on Friday we'll talk Grounding Rituals for Summer Energy & Emotional Balance (unless processing this podcast yells something else at me... then we may switch it up... stay tuned!)
